Sony waslooking at making a new addition to the smartwatch category. That news is now official, as the company now announced the SmartWatch 2. The Android-powered wearable device will retain much of the remote functionality that was seen in its predecessor.
Let’s look at that in a bit more detail. First off, users can use the SmartWatch 2 to see who is calling them on the SmartWatch screen and use a wireless Bluetooth headset to take the call. The wearable device also lets user browse through the call log to initiate a call.
The SmartWatch will be seen featuring a 1.6-inch (220 x 176) touch display fit into an aluminum body that is designed to be dust and water resistant. This is similar to the resistance that Sony featured on its Xperia Z line-up earlier on. The company has also given users some choice by offering a stainless steel wristband that can be exchanged for any other 24 mm strap. The company is looking at introducing more alternatives to the straps soon.
Sony has announced the SmartWatch2, the latest addition to the wearable device category
The SmartWatch2 also lets users read their text messages, email, calendar, Facebook, Twitter and gmail. When a message or notification comes in, users only need to touch the app icon to read it on the SmartWatch 2's screen. The wearable device features a multi-layer colour touchscreen, which give users the ability to browse through and read all their notifications.
Sony has designed its SmartWatch 2 to support both NFC and Bluetooth 3.0, which will make it easy for users to pair the smartwatch with other compatible devices that are running Android 4.0 or higher. The company has claimed that the SmartWatch2 will be able to run for a maximum of 4 days with moderate use. And with minimal use, the SmartWatch may also last for as long as 7 days. The word moderate is a bit ambiguous, but until the SmartWatch 2 comes up with a few hands-on, the actual battery life cannot be validated.
Sony has not yet released any official information about the price of this wearable device. The release date is also not certain, as the company has said the SmartWatch2 will be coming to markets sometime in September.
